The MARMIT (multilayer radiative transfer model of soil reflectance) model (Bablet et al., 2018) is a radiative transfer model predicting the spectral reflectance of wet soils in the solar domain. It belongs to the family of two-layer models that represent a wet soil as a dry soil covered with a thin layer of liquid water. MARMIT-2 is an improved version of MARMIT that represents a wet soil as a dry soil topped with a thin layer of liquid water. It is used to assess soil moisture content over seven independent laboratory datasets gathered from the literature.
